If you're a musician trying to get your music career in order in South Africa, chances are you've run into a few roadblocks with SAMRO – the Southern African Music Rights Organisation. Whether it’s registering as a member, notifying your works, or getting those elusive royalty statements, the process can be frustrating.

But here’s the good news: SAMRO now offers an online booking system so you can speak directly to a consultant who’ll guide you step by step.

In this post, I’ll walk you through how to book an appointment with SAMRO in just a few clicks.

Why Book an Appointment with SAMRO?

This booking system helps you avoid delays and get personal assistance for:

  • Registration and membership support

  • Notification of works

  • Royalty statements and payment queries

  • Banking detail updates

  • Publishing inquiries

  • Deceased member cases

  • Royalty advances

Step-by-Step: How to Book a SAMRO Appointment

1. Visit the Official SAMRO Website

Once on the homepage, you’ll see a banner that says “Book Your Appointment”. Click it.

Note: The homepage banner may change, so here are two other ways to access it:
  • Top Menu > Contact > Book Your Appointment

  • SAMRO Member Portal (click "Member Only Online Portal" and find the booking option)

2. Select Your Service

Click "Schedule an Appointment", and a form will pop up—powered by Outlook. You don’t have to log in to SAMRO to access it.

Choose the type of service that best matches your needs:

3. Choose a Time Slot

  • The system will show available dates and times.

  • Make sure your time zone is set to GMT+2 (South Africa).

  • Pick a date and time that works for you (availability changes often, so check back if slots are full).

4. Enter Your Details

You’ll need to fill in:

  • Full name

  • Email address

  • Phone number

  • SAMRO member number (optional if not registered yet)

Click "Book", and you’ll receive an email confirmation with your appointment details.

A Note About Royalty Statements

Many musicians get frustrated when payments arrive without any explanation. SAMRO has improved in recent years, but royalty statements are often delayed by up to two months after you receive the payment.

This can make it difficult to track where your earnings are coming from. Booking an appointment under the Royalties category can help you get clarity.

Need Help Outside of SAMRO?

If you need help understanding the music industry, setting up your publishing, managing royalties, or growing your music career beyond SAMRO, I offer one-on-one consultations.

Final Tips

  • Appointments are free and helpful – don’t miss yours.

  • Use the correct time zone when booking.

  • If no slots are available, check again later—availability changes frequently.

  • Subscribe to helpful channels or newsletters for ongoing guidance.
