If you're a South African musician registered with SAMRO (South African Music Rights Organisation) and you've been receiving royalties, you might be wondering how to easily access your royalty statements online. Good news — SAMRO has updated their online portal, making it much simpler to find your distribution statements for recent years!
In this blog post, I'll walk you through the step-by-step process to find and download your statements without having to email or call SAMRO.
Why You Should Check Your Royalty Statements
Your royalty statements give you a clear breakdown of where your income is coming from — whether it's radio plays, live performances, or broadcast royalties. Staying on top of your statements helps you track your earnings and ensures everything is properly accounted for.
SAMRO has started uploading royalty statements for 2024 and 2025 to their portal. Unfortunately, statements from 2023 and earlier are not currently available online — which is a bit frustrating. However, for the latest distributions, everything you need is already on the portal.
Step-by-Step: How to Find Your SAMRO Distribution Statements
Step 1: Go to the SAMRO Portal.
Step 2: Log in with your username and password.(Note: You must already have portal access. If you don't, you’ll need to register or request access first.)
Step 3: Once logged in, look at the left-hand menu and find Distribution Data.
Step 4: Under Distribution Data, click on Distribution Statements.
Step 5: You’ll see a list of all your available statements, starting from 2024.You can also spot new statements being uploaded for 2025 as they become available.
Step 6: To download a statement, simply click the Download button next to it and save it to your device for your records.
And that's it — a simple, no-hassle way to access your royalties directly!
A Quick Heads-Up
As mentioned earlier, statements from years before 2024 (like 2023 and earlier) are currently not on the portal. It's unclear whether they will be added, so if you need older statements, you might still need to contact SAMRO directly.
